About Us
One of the oldest traditional corner butcher shops left in Australia, Elvy’s was started by the Elvy family in the late 1800’s, first opened in the Inner West of Sydney. The site of the current shop, at 79 Allen Street has remained the same since opening in 1952 and is now heritage listed.
John Elvy took over the family business and legacy in 1973 until 2013, when David took over the reins, respecting the family history of the shop and retaining the Elvy name. Since taking on ownership David, who has 20 years’ experience as a butcher, has worked hard to not only retain the quality and service expected by Elvy’s customers but has reflected his own European heritage by introducing house made smoked European small goods alongside the prestigious meat offer.
Still a traditional family butcher, David and the team pride themselves on offering only the best, local, and handmade goods for your family. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to eat meat that has been ethically reared and should taste the way it should. All products are grass fed, free range, preservative and nitrate free, and nothing comes out of the box with all bodies broken down by hand. With beef from Cowra and pork and lamb from Temora, all our bodies come directly from the farmers which allows us to choose what we want to get the best weight and amount of fat for our needs. We also make all of our smallgoods in house by hand, including our sausages for which we use all-natural casings (not synthetic).
David and his team are busy in the shop daily and ready to help answer any questions you have about our meat, ordering and even preparing and cooking.
We’re looking forward to welcoming you to Elvy’s on Allen!
We’d be pleased to meet you with meat to please you!
Thanks,
David
